Ambush and Memories: The Last Christmas of G.I. Joe at The Outpost

Story by Mitchell Smith
Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m dialing it back to 1990. I was entering high school and my G.I. Joe days were slowly fading away. I think my mom still felt bad for years we didn’t get much for Christmas or maybe she was just hanging on to her little boy. Either way this was the last year I would receive GI Joes for Christmas. It was only a handful of figures and one I received is a fan favorite. Ambush was a really cool looking figure. Aaron McMahon from Walnut, Ca. Ambush is an infantryman whose specialty is hiding out. He did have a part in the cartoon and the comics, so this was an easy character to become very popular.
The figure came with a rifle and pistol along with a camo poncho and a tent he could carry for those long missions out in the bush. There were even instructions on how to set up the tent behind the figure on his card. He has a unique look and I think that added to the popularity of the character. I love the textured forearms and it just adds even more depth to this figure. This has always been one of my favorites and I’m happy I still have mine from my childhood.
When I see Ambush I think of my mother and all she did for me growing up. There was a modern Ambush and I’m sure at some point we will get a Classified version, but for now I will enjoy the original version. Who had an Ambush back in the day? Make sure to check back next week for the next discussion at The Outpost.

I remember picking Ambush at the supermarket. His accessories were SO cool. The poncho was a perfect addition to any figure. The tent was somehow even cooler. Great wrote up.
